disease controlEmergency Preparedness is 1 of 4 departments at the Public Health Department. Emergency Preparedness's responsibility is to plan for and respond to public health emergencies.

These emergencies can include outbreaks of infectious illnesses (such as: pandemic flu, measles), food or waterborne illnesses (such as salmonella, E. coli) as well as other threats. Man-made attacks can also create public health emergencies (such as anthrax, plague).

Emergency Preparedness includes:

    • Surveillance of disease within the county to ensure early detection of outbreaks
    • Dissemination of health information during public health emergencies to ensure residents and citizens have the most accurate and updated information
    • Institution of social distancing measures such as isolation, quarantine, and the closing of venues to decrease the spread of disease
    • Provision of mass prophylaxis dispensing/vaccination to residents and visitors during a public health emergency should medications/vaccines be available.
  • Pre-event planning for public health emergencies with community partners with whom public health responds.
  • Pre-event exercises with community partners to ensure a timely and well coordinated response.
